Stone dogs are sometimes seen on the steps of Alexandria doorways. Also note the miniature sailboat on the lintel (easier to see in the larger size; click on the photo to view). The homeowners are no doubt sailing enthusiasts, but this is also Captain’s Row, where many 16th century ship’s captains once resided. Photographer: MarieMcC of Alexandria Daily Photo. Welcome

When taking pictures for Alexandria Daily Photo, I’m often torn between showing the entire building or honing in on the detail. For that reason I’ve started this blog, which will feature only doorways, a favorite subject of photographers everywhere. Photographer: MarieMcC of Alexandria Daily Photo. Taken in June 2006. This doorway is in Southeast Washington DC.
